A special request from Phil D’Eon

July 5th, 2023

By Phil D'Eon

Hello Fellow Centre Ice Canadians supporter:

My name is Phil D’Eon and I’m a Toronto-based supporter of the Centre Ice Canadians cause.

I’m writing to ask you for some help.

This is a one-time request for a small donation of $20 from all of you by July 20th for a very specific mission: to clear the way for a positive decision to launch this new political party on Sept 20th.

True to the careful, rational thinking that we all espouse, the Centre Ice Canadians founders commissioned a professional survey early this year, at a cost of $30,000, to determine the appetite of Canadians for a new centrist party. The survey results indicated a strong appetite for a new centrist party and yielded powerful information that can be used strategically come the next election.

A key factor in the final decision to launch a Party, or not, will be that all costs to date are completely covered. That survey is the biggest cost item by far. To date, they have collectively raised $10,000 towards the survey cost, leaving $20,000 remaining to be paid. The Centre Ice leadership group will not support any plans for a new Party unless the organization has fully paid its debts by the September 20th deadline.

This position is an ethical decision and a commendable one. But it could thwart the best opportunity that we have had in a very long time to change the Canadian political landscape for the better.

So let’s retire that survey debt with a large number of small contributions. There’s power in numbers.

If all of us kick in $20, the survey debt is retired, a big barrier is removed and there are funds remaining to cover all operating expenses until September 20th.

I know many of you reading this have already contributed, as I have. I’m asking you to please join me in donating again. I’ve personally donated quite generously – but I’m going to donate another $20 to this campaign as well. I hope you’ll join me in stepping forward when you need to be counted.

At this point your donations are not tax-deductible, so the request is very modest. A party becomes eligible for tax-deductible donations only if it’s fully registered and accepted as an eligible party with Elections Canada. This is the step they’re working towards by September 20th.

Meanwhile, there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes to prepare for a positive decision to launch.

I can’t think of another time when a $20 donation could have such a visible impact on the future. Please donate.

Thank you so very much.
